PHOTOGRAPHY: FOR JOSEPH AND MEL

This one is for Joseph and Mel:

Yesterday I went out to take some new photos during my lunch hour. I was encouraged by Joseph ( http://ptjosephrosa.blogspot.com/ ) as well as Mel (http://pursuingholiness.blogspot.com/ ) to look for something interesting and just photograph it. I had seen Mel take some photos of a church that she had posted in her blog a while back, so I went off to look at the inside of this church to see if I could take some pictures that were just every day pictures of something I saw.
As soon as I got to the church, the first thing that caught my eye was a dog sitting outside, tied to a bike, waiting for his owner to return from inside the church. Seeing the dog waiting seemed pretty interesting so I took a few minutes to capture the dog in some pictures. Well shortly after I started photographing the dog, his owner came outside and saw me taking pictures and seemed very excited about me having a camera. He immediately came to me and asked me if I would take a picture of him and his dog. I was very flattered and very excited to be able to share my hobby with someone in need. He wanted the picture, and I wanted the chance to share my hobby with someone else, so it was a win-win for both of us. I took several pictures and he thanked me very excitedly, so I told him I would take a couple more of him sitting on the steps.

Michael,

Thank you for letting me take your picture. I appreciate when someone wants to share my hobby with me. I included the photo of your dog also, who was the object of my pictures before you returned. Have a wonderful day and may it be full of the Lord’s wonderful blessings. God Bless…

Sincerely,

Katrena

your very welcome, glad I could be there to share....

Katrena, The pictures are beautiful. You made our day. God bless you for your generosity and time! The interior of the Cathedral is very picturesque as well. Sincerely, Mike

As you can tell, he enjoyed the photos very much much, so I took the time to send him a few more of the inside of the cathederal. I hope he enjoyed them as much as I did.

I later sent the photos of the inside of the church to Mel, who I knew could use a smile, as I know things have a been a little tough for her lately. She was very blessed by the pictures and I'm glad I was able to share.

The pictures brought up an interesting discussion about the actual designs of the art work inside Catholic churches (in general) and its something that makes me wonder about the reasoning behind it, as well as something that just makes me laugh overall.

The one particular thing that brings this to thought is: why do all of the portrayals of Jesus, Mary and all the Saints etc.. all have a giant, angelic "halo" hanging over their heads. I myself have a hard time imagining all of these people walking around with a halo over them, or for that matter, even an extremely bright glow about them that makes them stand out from the crowd.

Mary was just an ordinary young girl, and I'm pretty sure that even as she grew with child that her body didn't become brighter or stand out more as she got closer to the birth of Jesus, nor do I think it changed after she gave birth to him.

As for Jesus, the bible says he was so ordinary in his looks that He was able to blend in with the earthly people; He didn't stand out in a crowd. He grew up as a carpenters son and only went out to minister in the last few years of His life. Even then, people had to point him when to others. You would think if He had a Halo/bright glow about Him that he wouldn't be able to hide out so well.... ;O)

I realize this sounds funny, but I always pictures that "halo" over their heads as some heaving thing that they have to carry around, sort of like a burden on their shoulders, for all the world to see. Maybe someone another point of view on this, as I said, it just makes me giggle when I see it.... Just my thought!!
Anyways, it was interesting to see how much one hour of my day brought about so many interesting things to see and discuss... Thanks Joseph and Mel for sending me in a different direction with my camera yesterday. It proved to be very interesting indeed!!!

Euclid once wrote, that if two straight lines cross each other, they build a right angle.
Seems as if the eyes of you and the objects being photographed created indeed right angles.

Hi Katrena

I am thrilled to read this post and spell bound at the beautiful photos you have captured.

It is astounding to note that you have spent one hour so interestingly and usefully. I know you love dogs and you captured some lovely photos. You made the dog owner happy by not only taking some photos of him with his faithful pet and by sending the photos to him. He will remember you all his life whenever he sees the photos. Who knows he might even frame it and keep it on a table where he can see it.

You made me and Mel happy with your thoughtfulness. I am also very happy to note that you are living somewhere close to Mel. If you meet her or talk to her please say HELLO to her on my behalf. Tell her she is in my thoughts and prayers. I hope this SEASON(her favorite word) will pass away without delay and she will be happy and joyful. I terribly miss her visits to my blog. Her cheery, bubbly comments were fantastic, fascinating and made me jump with joy.

I agree with you photography is so wonderful that one gets completely engrossed. It takes us to a different level and our spirits soar with it. We forget all our earthly worries and surroundings for the time being. I would go to the extent of saying that photography helps us to get in touch with our divinity.

You brought up a very hilarious discussion. In my opinion, the halo around Jesus, Mother Mary, and the Saints is only symbolic and makes us, human beings, understand that they are special people and blessed. We worship Jesus as our God and pray to Mother Mary and Saints to intercede for us. We give them halos to bring that fervor and earnestness to pray and worship. The halo indicates these are special people and worthy of our adoration. This halo is for us and not for them. This halo is found not only in Christianity but also in Hinduism, Sikkism and Buddhism.,

I thoroughly enjoyed this post and lovely photos. Your humorous thoughts about halos made me laugh.

Have a bright and beautiful day Kat,
Joseph:)

Hi Kat:)

I have checked up the new set of photos on Manito Park, a bear, and New dated 9\3\09.

They are absolutely gorgeous. You have taken so much care, thought, imagination and intuition to capture these gorgeous photos. The color, the shades, the positioning, the angles in which they are displayed are marvelous and the result of great expertise, experience, and skill. Every single photo is a visual treat. Many, many thanks for sharing.

I don't understand why I am not able to post my comment on the site itself. I tried several times and failed. I find others have commented. I wonder what is the trick. Can you guide me, please?

Joseph,

If you are signed in, open up the folder you are looking at and then open up the individual picture that you want to look at. "underneath" the picture there is a box that you can leave a comment on. As far as I can tell, you can only leave them under individual pictures and not on the folder as a whole. Try that and see if it works. Thanks for the wonderful feedback on my pictures. I took the whole day off last friday to go take photos in the park. Its a beautiful park with a Rose garden that goes on forever with all different colors and varieties of roses and the japanese garden, and I'm sure much more, I just haven't had time to explore it. I'm on my way out for lunch right now to go find something new to photograph. I will try and post again in the next day or so if I come up with something worth sharing. Have and absolutely wonderful day... May it be full of all the blessings that God can provide. God Bless... Kat

Hi Katrena:)

Many thanks for the guidance.

It is wonderful to read that you are clubbing lunch time with photography. Photography is very absorbing while increasing a person's sense of observation and enhancing the feeling of admiration of the gorgeous beauty lying all around us.

But make sure you have a good lunch before you go out to click:)

It is raining here today and I hope it will stop by lunch time so that I can go out.

Have a nice day Kat:)

Joseph.... Wow, thanks for all the wonderful comments you left on my pictures.. All the kind thoughts put in them really made my day. Photography really takes me into another world that I didn't know even existed until I got my digital camera. Now, all I want to do is go explore the world that we live in and see what kind of new and amazing things my day will bring to me. Have a wonderful day Joseph and thanks for being such a blessing to all of those around you. God Bless...Kat
